Some Things  I Believe About the Soul

2024

This essay is in pursuit of a better understanding on what the soul is – does it exist, can it be measured, what is it, and other questions about the soul. I am defining what the soul is in this essay.

I am writing with answers to questions about the soul. The answers are supported by researching the questions using Google’s Artificial Intelligence Overview Technology. The views I write below are my views based on my research and thinking about the soul.

The soul has never been quantified – meaning no physical measurements have ever been made related to anything that might be a soul. Without such measurements, physical scientists would not support that a “physical” soul exists. However, many human mental states such as sensations, thoughts, desires, and beliefs have also never been physically measured (quantified) so physical scientists would not support such states’ existence, based on physical measurements. A rational conclusion would be that although sensations, thoughts, desires, and beliefs have never been physically measured, their existence is beyond dispute, and the same conclusion should be made about souls.

Although soul can have multiple meanings and descriptions (for example, in such disciplines as theology, philosophy, psychology, and others), all humans has what can be referred to and described as a soul, just as all humans has such mental states as sensations, thoughts, desires, and beliefs.

Souls, like sensations, thoughts, desires, and beliefs, are constantly changing and like sensations, thoughts, desires, and beliefs, do so as the human brain interacts with its surroundings. Souls are affected by and depend on sensations, thoughts, desires, and beliefs, and therefore, disconnecting a soul from sensations, thoughts, desires, and beliefs is not possible.

I suggest the human brain, which is affected by sensations, thoughts, desires, and beliefs, and having a soul, and having other physiological functions, is, collectively, in a state that I call “being”. And it is from the state of “being” that the human archives its “becoming” – that which the human becomes through interactions with the environment. Therefore, what a human becomes incorporates in its becoming a state that includes a soul. Just as a person’s sensations, thoughts, desires, beliefs, and other physiological functions lead to what a person becomes, a person’s soul also influences what a person becomes.

A soul is a part of a person but a part unique to sensations, thoughts, desires, and beliefs. It is this part (the soul), unique to sensations, thoughts, desires, and beliefs, which gives and governs conceptions and aspirations beyond the ordinary – the part of a person that defines what is divine, is holy, is infinite, is moral (in other words what is godly). It is in the soul of human beings that what is refer to as god is found on our planet. Souls, and therefore “god”, only exist in living human beings. “God” in individual souls natures “god” in other souls.

Importantly, what the collections of human souls can led to is infinite.  It is this collection of human souls where the infinite God, who, when demonstrated, is found.
